For more than 25 years, most doctors have criticized physicians who prescribe DHEA to help relieve some of the effects of aging.

As you age, blood levels of DHEA drop and you lose muscle and bone and become fatter. DHEA is produced by your adrenal glands and is converted to masculinizing and feminizing hormones in your body. A recent report from respected and established researchers at the University of Colorado shows that 50 mg per day of DHEA pills for six months increased muscle and bone size and decreased fat in 73 year old men and women with low blood levels of DHEA. The authors feel that these impressive results came from an increase in blood levels of insulin like growth factor-1 and testosterone which help muscles and bones grow larger. No serious side effects were reported. We await other studies to see if these impressive results can be confirmed.
