Reflux Usually Needs Antibiotics

If you suffer from belching, burning in your stomach and a sour taste in your mouth, check with your doctor. You have either an infection, reflux or a stomach tumor.

Your doctor will order an upper GI series X ray or put a tube into your stomach to look for a cancer. He will also order tests for helicobacter, the bacteria that causes most stomach ulcers. Virtually all doctors agree that all cases of helicobacter infections should be treated with antibiotics, but if you don't have helicobacter, you will be diagnosed with reflux or GERD which means that stomach acid is regurgitating up your esophagus and that you will never be cured and can expect to take medications for the rest of your life. All people who have belching and burning in their stomachs and a helicobacter infection should be treated with two antibiotics and an ulcer medicine for at least one week. See my report on Helicobacter pylori.
