Dr. Robert Belland, of Hamilton, Montana, reports that he has found the toxin produced by chlamydia.

Sexually-transmitted chlamydia is the most common cause of infertility in North America. Since the 1940s, scientists had suspected that chlamydia causes terrible suffering by producing a toxin, and this report shows that this newly-found toxin is the cause of painful burning on urination, chills, fever, muscle and joint aches, pelvic inflammatory disease that can kill a woman, and blindness and pneumonia in newborns. This toxin is very similar to a poison released by Clostridium difficile, a bacterium that causes horrendous diarrhea.

Hopefully, scientists will use this breakthrough to make vaccines, diagnostic tests, and drug treatments to prevent and treat this sexually-transmitted disease that causes such terrible suffering . For now, delay intimate contact with a new partner until you both can be checked and treated for this very common cause of misery.
