Sesame Oil for Nasal Congestion

A study from Goteberg, Sweden shows that a sesame seed oil nasal spray helped to relieve the irritated stuffy noses of people during cold Swedish winters.

During winter in cold climates, air is heated, which markedly increases its drying effects on nasal and lung membranes, causing many people to suffer itching, burning, and crusting in their noses and bronchial tubes. Many people buy over-the-counter salt solutions to spray in their noses. This study shows that sesame seed oil is far more effective in relieving the itching, burning and crusting caused by breathing dry air. However, you will have to look for a commercial preparation. If you spray regular sesame seed oil into your nose and it gets into your lungs, it could cause coughing and shortness of breath.
