The End of Coral Calcium?

On June 9, 2003, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) charged the marketers of Coral Calcium with making false claims about the product's health benefits. One of the promoters of Coral Calcium is Kevin Trudeau, who hosts the infomercial that has sold millions of dollars worth of this. Trudeau is a twice-convicted felon for credit card fraud and larceny. He has been the subject for multiple fines and injunctions for false advertising. Earlier in June, the FTC charged Trudeau and Robert Barefoot with falsely representing that the product is effective against cancer, multiple sclerosis, lupus, heart disease, and many other health problems.

The FTC has sent dozens of warning letters to web sites making outrageous claims for Coral Calcium. There is nothing that differentiates Coral Calcium nutritionally from much cheaper calcium supplements. It has also been reported that Coral Calcium contains lead above the limit allowed by California. The actual amount is probably not a health concern but does trigger a requirement for a warning label which does not appear on this product. Coral Calcium's only real claim is that it is certainly the world's most expensive calcium supplement.
