Nasal Bands for Exercisers

A study from China shows that nasal bands worn by many athletes really do help them to exercise longer.

More than 12 research papers are split equally on whether nasal bands improve endurance or not. This paper was more scientific because it shows that people who wear nasal bands during vigorous exercise have lower blood levels of carbon dioxide. This shows that they clear breakdown products of metabolism more efficiently because they move more air and therefore have greater endurance.

Pushing the tip of your nose upwards and backwards enlarges your nostrils so they can take in extra air, but you have to breathe through you mouth during vigorous exercise because the cross sectional area of your mouth is ten times that of your two nostrils. Evidently, your nose contributes something when you breath through you mouth and widening your nostrils adds extra air to your lungs.
