    Posted: 29 Jan 2009 at 1:01pm

I am in good health and my height and weight are exactly where they should be for a 44 year old, I exercise 5 days a week and eat a very low carb diet.  I also take Actos and metforman at night before going to bed.  My sugars during the day are good and my A1C ranges between 6.0 to 6.7.

The only issue I have is that my morning fasting sugars are always high in the 180-210 range.  After I eat breakfast my blood sugar drops to normal ranges.  I am very frustrated as nothing seems to be working to drop my fasting sugar  Other than fasting I have great control. Any direction would be grealty appreciated!

Thats one of the strangest ones I've heard on Diabetes.

Are you sure you are not sleepwalking and scoffing down a couple of chocolate bars in the middle of the night?

Sorry, but this needs a Dr's input.

Look up dawn effect and simogyi effect.  Not sure of the spelling on the second one.

I have been T2 for 19 years and don't   use  meds.  Today fasting blood sugar was 87.  In my opinion, low carb is not the way to go for diabetes.  Low carbers usually eat animal protein and eat more fat.  If you are T2, a plant based diet with lots of leafy greens and other vegetables, fruits, beans and some whole grains like half a cup of brown rice with your vegetables might possibly eliminate your need for meds.  You might also want to reconsider dairy and eggs.

Try looking up on the net--Fuhrman, McDougall, Esselstyn, Pritikin.
