Multiple Venereal Diseases

A study from London, England showed that people who contract venereal diseases often have more than one infection.

People who develop venereal diseases often have multiple partners or have relations with people who have multiple partners. Of those with gonorrhea, 24.2 percent of the heterosexual men and 38.5 percent of the women also had chlamydia. Of those infected with chlamydia, 18.8 percent of heterosexual males and 13 percent of females also had gonorrhea. Younger people with venerable diseases are more likely to suffer multiple infections. More than half the women and a quarter of the men aged 15 to 19 years had two or more infections at the same time. This suggests that younger people who chose to be sexually active are less discriminating in choosing their partners. The DNA probe to diagnose chlamydia and gonorrhea can miss as many as 50 percent of those infected, so doctors should treat people with venereal diseases with antibiotics that cover both germs.
