When you wake the morning after a sexual misadventure with burning on urination, the odds are overwhelming that you have a venereal disease and the most common one is caused by bacteria called chlamydia.

Available tests for chlamydia fail to diagnose that germ 50 percent of the time, so doctors prescribe antibiotics, such as doxycycline, twice a day for three weeks. Studies over the last 10 years show that some chlamydia cannot be cured by tetracyclines, so you may need Zithromax or Biaxin, types of erythromycin antibiotics. Recent reports show that many chlamydia are resistant to these drugs also, so doctors may prescribe quinolone antibiotics such as ofloxacin or grapifloxacin.

Now a frightening study from the Center for Disease control and Prevention in Atlanta shows that some chlamydia bacteria cannot be killed by commonly used antibiotics. To protect yourself, stay home, wear condoms and be careful. You can get an incurable disease from unprotected sex.
