FATTY FISH AND PROSTATE CANCER

An article from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden reports that eating fatty fish may help to prevent prostate cancer.

Many studies show that omega-3 fatty acids in deep-water fish inhibit the growth of prostate cancer cells both in the test tube and in animals. Omega-3 fatty acids form body chemicals called eicosanoids that inhibit arachidonic acid, a chemical that causes prostate cancer cells to spread.

All men will develop prostate cancer if they live long enough. This study gives another reason to eat whole grains, that are good sources of omega-3 fatty acids, not pasta and bakery products that have had omega-3s removed. Eat deep water fish such as salmon, tuna and sardines. Eat nuts and seeds such as flax or sunflower that have omega-3s, not candy and pastries that have none.
