LACTOBACILLUS TO TREAT DIARRHEA IN CHILDREN

A study in Pediatrics shows that taking the bacteria lactobacillus helps to control diarrhea in children.

Your colon is loaded with bacteria. Some good because they help the body digest food and form chemicals that prevent disease, and some bad because they irritate the colon to cause diarrhea, ulcers and even some chronic diseases such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. The good and bad bacteria compete for space in your colon. When you take an antibiotic, you may knock of good bacteria as well as bad ones, and allow a bad bacteria, called clostridia, to grow without limit to cause horrible bloody diarrhea.

A review of 26 studies in medical journals shows that giving a good bacteria called lactobacillus to children with diarrhea, allows lactobacillus to grow in the colon and crowd out the bad bacteria to stop the diarrhea. See report #9829.
