TREATMENT OF PSORIASIS

Gabe Mirkin, M.D.

A few months ago I reported on a new breakthrough treatment using a drug to treat diabetes that cleared total body psoriasis. I have now cured three patients with total body psoriasis with Avandia and an injection of triamcinolone. Thick plaques that covered the entire body are gone in two months , and the nails are clearing also. It wasn't my idea. A study from the University of Michigan showed that Rezulin could be used to clear up total body psoriasis. Rezulin was removed from the market because it was associated with liver damage, but Avandia (4 mg per day) or Actos (30 mg per day) work the same way.

Psoriasis is characterized by thick plaques on the elbows, knees and body, dandruff and thick nails. It is caused by a defect that forces the skin to turn over seven times as fast as normal skin. PPAR-gamma is a surface protein on cells that regulates how fast cells make new cells. These diabetic medications make cells more sensitive to PPAR-gamma so they need less insulin. PPAR-gamma also slows the rate that cells form new cells. For a more detailed report on psoriasis see #G157.
