An article in the Journal of Renal Nutrition shows that soybeans and flaxseeds may treat many kidney diseases.

Protein in urine is a sign of kidney damage. Eating large amounts of soybeans and flaxseed reduces protein in urine and improves kidney function and structural damage in animals and humans. Omega-3 fatty acids in soybeans and flaxseeds help to prevent progression of kidney damage in immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN), the most common primary kidney disease. Soybeans contain isoflavones and flaxseed contain lignins that also help prevent kidney damage.

Doctors treat most inflammatory kidney diseases with drugs, such as prednisone, that suppress a person's immunity. If further studies confirm these, inflammatory or autoimmune kidney disease will be treated with a diet high in phytoestrogens and omega-3 fatty acids, found in flaxseeds, soybeans, and other whole grains, beans, nuts and other seeds.
