A study from Laval University in Canada explains why its so difficult to lose weight and keep it off.

Losing weight makes you hungry. You can eat less for a while, but eventually hunger will cause you to eat more. If you want to lose weight, don't try to count calories and leave the table hungry. You'll just set yourself up for yoyoing, which increases your chances for heart attacks and gall stones. Eating low density foods does help people to lose weight and keep it off because they have to eat more to get the same number of calories.

The most effective way to lose weight is to exercise long and hard. Exercise will cause you to eat more, but you will never increase your food intake to equal the extra number of calories that you burn during and after exercise. If you are overweight, start an exercise program and eat more fruits, vegetables, beans and whole grains and cut back on other foods.
