What to Centenarians Eat?

A study from China showed that people who live to be 100 tend to eat a diet that is extremely high in plants, fiber and minerals and is very low in calories, protein and fat.

Hair analysis showed that their diet contained lots of copper, selenium and manganese, found in a wide variety of plant-based foods. They also had very low blood cholesterol levels, a sign that they do not eat large amounts of food, saturated fats, and partially hydrogenated fats found in meat, chicken and bakery products. They reached the age of 100 because they are relatively free of cancers and arteriosclerosis, which is associated with eating a plant-based diet. To be like them, eat a diet that contains a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, seeds and nuts, and limit your intake of meat, chicken, whole milk dairy products, sugar and refined carbohydrates. That's a perfect description of the modified DASH diet that I have recommend for many years.
