A study from the University of Victoria shows that massive doses of vitamins and minerals do not prolong the lives of women with breast cancer. The women were prescribed very large doses of beta-carotene, vitamin C, niacin, selenium, coenzyme Q10, and zinc in addition to standard therapies. Most people think that vitamins can help treat cancer, because some vitamins, such as vitamin C, are antioxidants that help clear oxidants that cause cancer, but there is no data to show that large doses of vitamins can help treat breast cancer in humans, or any other cancer for that matter.
