Research from the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health shows that people who lose at least 10 pounds through dieting at least three times during their lifetimes have much lower HDL cholesterol than people who don't yoyo, and therefore are at increased risk for heart attacks.

HDL is the good cholesterol that carries cholesterol from the blood stream to the liver where it can be removed before it forms plaques in arteries. The yoyoers had 4Mg -per deciliter lower blood levels of the good HDL and each one ml drop increases a person's risk for a heart attack by 3%. When you take in more refined carbohydrates in bakery products, pastas and sugar added foods, you lower your good HDL cholesterol and raise your blood levels of triglycerides. Every time that you gain weight rapidly, you form plaques in arteries and lower your good HDL cholesterol. Every time that you lose weight rapidly, you form gall stones.

Most popular diet books are written by people with no credentials who have never brought their theories to scientific audiences to be evaluated before they unleash their nonsense on the public. Their books sell because the American public loves nonsense. It is ridiculous to state that your blood type determines what you should eat. It is nonsensical to eat only fruit in the morning. It is absurd to not be able to eat protein and carbohydrates together.

If you want to lose weight and keep it off, cut back on refined carbohydrates, and dense sources of fat. Restrict bakery products, pastas, all sugar added foods and dense sources of calories such as meat, chicken, whole milk diary products and fried foods. Eat reasonable amounts of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans seeds and nuts.
