A study from UCLA shows that three weeks of a diet and exercise program can markedly reduce risk factors for heart attacks. Eleven men started a low-fat, high-fiber diet and daily exercise for 45 to 60 minutes. Three weeks later, their systolic and diastolic blood pressures, their total blood cholesterol and bad LDL cholesterol, and their fasting insulin levels dropped significantly, and they had lost weight.

If you have high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol levels, a high C-reactive protein, are overweight or store fat primarily in your belly, you are at high risk for a heart attack, and can save your life by checking with your doctor and going on a diet the restricts meat, chicken, bakery products, pastas, and sugar-added foods, and eating lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, seeds and nuts, and starting a supervised exercise program. You may not get a second chance after you have had a heart attack. See report #8614.
