After George Bush's campaign advisor, Lee Atwater, died from a brain tumor located just behind his ear, exactly under the spot where the ear piece of his cell phone rested, there was a flurry of frightened interest in the connection between cell phones and brain cancer.

Almost all studies so far have failed to show an association between cell phones and brain tumors. Sweden's Dr. Lennart Hardell of Örebro University and Dr. Kjell Hansson Mild of the National Institute for Working Life in Umeå have reported that they have found a brain tumor risk associated with the use of mobile cellular phones. They did not find an association with digital cellular telephones or cordless telephones. The longer people used phones, the greater their risk for brain tumors. The tumors were found only on the side of the brain on which the cellular phones were held, and not on the non-phone side.

This shows you how difficult it is for scientists to prove that a product causes a disease. There is tremendous controversy. All studies done in the United States fail to show an association between cell phones and brain tumors. We do know that people who use cell phones regularly have a markedly increased risk for headaches and recurrent fatigue. People who used the newer analog phones are far more likely than those who use digital phones to suffer headaches, concentration difficulties and memory loss.
